Colorado Trail 2013

We will be hiking from Breckenridge to Leadville, Colorado on July 4th, 2013. We depart Boston, Mass on the 4th and arrive in Denver later that day. Our plan is to have our buddy from 2008, Stick Man, pick us up and head for the hills. That evening we plan to hike a couple of miles at best in order to start the process of acclimatization. We will be going over 12,000 on our second day for a little while. That should be a good test for how we will handle the altitude. We want to keep our expectations low in terms of mileage the first couple of days, but we may be just fine when we start walking. I have never been in high altitude so my head my explode. Our plan is to meander along the Colorado Trail until sometime late Friday or Saturday. We leave early on Sunday the 14th and have a hotel room waiting for us close to the airport in Denver. We have all of our transportation taken care of thanks to Stick Man.

So we are making final preparations for a 9 day hike on the Colorado Trail. As much as I wish this were a Thruhike, we are ready in typical hiker fashion. The trick to this is traveling by air. We have had to work on ways to comply with TSA regulations. We have worked hard to get everything set and I think we should coast through any sort of security issues. We have received great advice from folks on Facebook and Views From The Top, so thanks to you all.
I am pre-packing 3-4 days worth of food as to avoid any sort of delay in getting to the trail. We have grown to love certain things on the trail since we hike so much. We figured what better way to start, than to start healthy. Im pretty excited about some of the new and easy backpacking recipes we have collected. Here is a sample. These recipes are gluten free backpacking meals. Since there will be the both of us, we will have 2 pots going via one stove to prepare each meal.

Spicy Thai Noodles
1/2 pack of Annie Chung Rice Noodles, prepare according to directions. 6-8 oz of boiling water
Leave the excess water in the pot
add1 packet of honey peanut butter
1 soy sauce packet
tsp of thai seasoning, small spice container- sesame seed, ginger, garlic, red pepper flake, paprika, onion powder
optional, add tuna or chicken
cleanup is easy and you can share with your partner. There is also the option of the second half of the noodle packet as well.
